Un to Any - 4 Tips to Free Your Life Now So 2024 Can Be All It Can Be for You

On December 16, 2023, I was cleaning off my desk, reorganizing files and stuff, you know, fun stuff. 😅

I ran across an article titled “UN to ANY - 4 ways to Free Your Life.” I started reading it as I was letting go and un-ing my life, unencumbering myself from things that no longer align with who I want to become. As I kept reading, I thought I could have written that article! That’s where I am right now! And, you know what? I DID write that article! 🤣 June 6, 2021.

I am still shaking my head incredulously. I only thought so because I had included a photo of me and one of my paintings, and the caption read “Me, Mary Rush.” But, I still couldn’t believe it until I found the article in a back issue of my newsletter. LOL. It cracks me up big time. Have you ever run across something that you did and don’t remember doing it?

So, I am reprinting this article in case others are in the same place as I was in December. January is the perfect time to let go to prepare you for the new. Life abhors a vacuum. So, let life’s vacuum cleaner do its job for you so you can move on unencumbered and embrace all that 2024 can be for you.

Halfway through 2021, the theme had become a year of Un. Has your life been the same since 2020, the year of the pandemic? Or has life undone it for you?

Pro Tip

Add the un prefix to any adjective, adverb, or noun you can think of. Then, turn your life upside down and inside out. Last year showed us that anything can happen. Once you un your life, you are ready for any—anything, anytime, anywhere. Anything can take place from a clean slate. Go from Un to Any and free your life.

4 Ways to Free Your Life Now

The four tips to free your life are inherent in the four UNs below. Start freeing up your life today. Ready? Read on.

  1. Be Unruled

The one rule is no rules. And if you have a real sense of limits, then you’re free to break out of them. –Helen Frankenthaler

What rules were you living by that were undone forcibly during the pandemic? What rules are you still living by that need to be undone? Who is ruling your life? Become unruled. Write a list of rules in your playbook of life in every aspect of your life. Or begin with one area and go at your own pace. Continue un-ruling and breaking your self-limited, self-imposed rules until you are free.

Here is an example from my life.

I have become enamored, once again, with the famous artist, innovative abstract expressionist, and color-field painting inventor Helen Frankenthaler. Her process was the next step in the evolution of my art journey.

She painted on an unprimed, unstretched canvas. These were the first two un’s of unruled painting for me to pursue. She also followed in the footsteps of a fellow painter, Jackson Pollock, by copying his radical approach to painting on the floor instead of the easel. So, that was my third un. Unencumbered by setting up an easel or having to paint where there is an easel set up freed me in untold ways to a jubilant celebration.

I set myself free from shoulds and rules on how to make a painting. Then, any came into play. Anything can happen now during the painting process. The uns kept coming, unleashed to paint in new ways.

Now, when painting on location in nature, instead of setting up an easel, I lay a sheet of plastic down on the ground. Then I unroll my canvas and lay it down on the plastic. I place my art supplies on the right of my canvas. With this new setup, I stand over my blank canvas, my eyes widen, my heart skips a beat, and joy fills every cell of my being. My inner child beams. I now paint the same way in my studio.

2. Un-control What's Outside Your Control

Let go of trying to control the moment. Live on the crest – the top of the wave. Let go of what just occurred and what’s going to happen next. –Dr. DAVID R. HAWKINS

Dr. Hawkins has been my guru this year after reading his book, Power Vs. Force, early this year. The only thing you can control is yourself. We cannot control anything outside of ourselves. If we try, we will meet disaster, frustration, and struggle.

Also, we cannot control the past or the future. So, let us stop trying by worrying and getting frustrated. We have to give up control—be un-control.

So, take out your trusty, beloved journal. Contemplate who and what you are trying to control. Be honest with yourself. No one else needs to read this. How can you un-control these persons, situations, and circumstances to free up headspace? Using un-control frees them up, too. Un-control of others and situations you cannot change frees everyone up.

Who or what is trying to control you? Think about that one. Others unwittingly are trying to control you to get what they want. Be uncontrollable. The media, politicians, religious leaders, and others are trying their very best to control us. Be uncontrollable. Break free of dogma.

3. Unlearn

Let go of all accumulated knowledge. –Lester Levenson

Everything learned to this point is of little use to the present moment. Knowledge becomes antiquated over time. Knowledge becomes a barrier and a heavy weight to carry. It keeps us from doing things differently. We hold on tight to the ways we have always done things. We do the same things repeatedly because it is what we know. Unlearn. Open your mind. Set yourself free to learn anew.

What knowledge are you carrying that you no longer need to keep?

4. Un-YOU

It is your turn. What part of you can you un? Once you undo YOU, you are free. All possibilities and potentialities exist in the void. Anything is possible anytime, anywhere.
